Our Story
My grandmother has become a very special person in my life as the years have gone by, so when she called me and said that she was in the hospital and wasn't sure when she was going to recover, I drove 9 hours the following day to be with her.
When I needed to get out of my home town at the age of 21, my grandma opened her doors to me and gave me a safe place to stay. In my eyes, she truly saved my life, so when she called, I didn't hesitate to make the drive to be with her and care for her home and cats until she recovered.
She ended up being in the hospital and rehab for 3 months and I wanted to surprise her when she came home. She has always loved butterflies, as they remind her of my grandpa, who used to buy her butterfly jewelry.
I was doing some small renovations to her home to make it more welcoming and new for her when she came home and I thought that the butterfly mural would be the perfect addition to her beautiful garden.
As I was painting the mural, many people stopped by to offer compliments on the art, yet in my mind, I was picking it apart and prepared to paint over it if she hated it. This was my first mural and it took over 40 hours of very tedious work, but it really paid off.
My grandmother loved the painting and so did the community! A few people stopped by and asked if I could paint something on their sheds next and I agreed, but I was still nervous, as this mural for my grandmother was my first ever painting in general that I had ever finished. All my life, I had said, "I am an artist, but I can't paint." I have a funny way of proving myself wrong, because by the following year, I created this business and painted over 50 murals all over the Outer Banks, with the help of my team.
